What Is Myofascial Triggerpoint Needling?
Myofascial Triggerpoint Needling, widely referred to as dry needling, involves inserting very fine, sterile needles directly into myofascial trigger points, the tight, knotted spots in muscle that cause local pain and refer discomfort elsewhere in the body. When the needle contacts the trigger point, the muscle produces a brief twitch and releases, often providing immediate relief.
Unlike acupuncture, dry needling is grounded in Western anatomy and neuroscience. It's used alongside neuromuscular therapy and rehabilitation to address the root cause of pain, not just the symptoms.
